Romance
“You…. Complete me” Tom Cruise as Jerry Maguire, Jerry Macguire (1996).It is voted as one of the top ten romantic lines from movies ever!
Movies often convey many a loving thought of heart and leads one to the world of romance. Heartfelt emotions, deep passionate thoughts and words of love are perhaps best epitomized in cinemas.
Renee Zellweger's "You had me at hello" often tops the list of corniest movie lines but still won over one in 10 romantics and came in fifth.Who could have thought such a simple sentence and ordinary words could strike the perfect cord of romance.
Of late I am on a daily routine of “one movie” per day so that gave me a chance to watch many feel good movies.
I happen to watch “ Before Sunrise” and was mesmerized!
“If there’s any kind of magic in this world, it must be in the attempt of understanding someone, sharing something. I know, it’s almost impossible to succeed, but…who cares, really? The answer must be in the attempt.”–Celine (Julie Delpy), Before Sunrise (1995).
One other dialogue which uses the idea of magic, was from the movie-Sleepless in Seattle. “It was a million tiny little things that, when you added them all up, they meant we were suppose to be together… and I knew it. I knew it the very first time I touched her. It was like coming home… only to no home I’d ever known… I was just taking her hand to help her out of a car and I knew. It was like… magic".
This dialogue actually made me sit and think. Sometimes its the eloquence of the words, other times its the passion of the characters, and in some cases, it is hard to put into words exactly what affects us in experience the best romantic movie quotes.
There are some films that are so heartwarming, romantic and intoxicating that their most romantic lines linger with the viewer well beyond watching the movie. For example the movie “When harry Met Sally”. This movie had released when I was 3 years old. I saw it when I was 13 and till now it’s in my “top pick” in Netflix.
This dialogue has the power to bring tears to my eyes. "I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”–Harry Burns (Billy Crystal), When Harry Met Sally (1989).
Films are fleetingly alive, but resolutely powerful. It's probably no stretch to say that Casablanca, arguably America's best-loved movie, has had more words written about it than any other motion picture. Over the years since its 1943 release, the legends and rumors surrounding the making of the film have generated almost as much attention as the finished product. Some of the top romantic quotes from films are so powerful that they become part of pop culture and they become synonymous with the iconic nature of the character and the movie. Casablanca -“We’ll always have Paris.”
I was trying to find out the motivation behind the romantic lines and lyrics.
"Wherever you go, whatever you do, I will be right here waiting for you. Whatever it takes, or how my heart breaks, I will be right here waiting for you."—Richard Marx, "Right Here Waiting" “Right Here Waiting" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at #44, the week of July 8, 1989, and became his third consecutive #1 single on August 12, 1989. Marx wrote it on the road as a love letter to his wife, actress Cynthia Rhodes, who was in South Africa shooting for a film.
In 2003, "Your Body Is a Wonderland" won John Mayer the Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. On VH1 Storytellers, Mayer said he wrote this when he moved to Atlanta and started to write songs. He had the guitar part for a while that became the beginning of this song. Said Mayer: "It was really about my first girlfriend I had when I was 14 years old."
There has to be an inspiration for writing something so meaningful, so deep and so passionate. Some write for girlfriends, some for their wives, some for lost love, broken hearts and some just write under the influence of alcohol or dope.
Whatever the case maybe the audience have many different feelings. Some sigh after listening to romantic songs or watching a romantic movie. They have the dreamy eyes, which make them believe that “somewhere someone is made for you”. Their belief is strengthen that they will someday have the same romance and will be head over heals in love. On the other hand some consider this impractical and a fantasy land. One of my friends secretly told me why he didn’t like romantic movies. The overly perfect lover boys in the movies threaten them. This might be true because romances make some women have unrealistic expectations.
It is said 'actions are louder than words'. Though it is true, the importance of expression can never ever be overestimated. If it weren’t for the need to articulate feelings, there would have been no love poems, no romantic quotes and no romantic novels. In others words, it is always necessary to tell the other person what you feel about him/her. It will make the impact of actions all the more profound!
We have always been touched by lines in the movies, and wish that we could say something as romantic as these lines. Of course, we are no screenwriters and poets, but it doesn’t mean we cannot get ideas from these most romantic lines, improvise and in some romantic moments, whisper those sweet words to our loved ones. Whether we want to spice up our love letters with a quote or two from a romantic movie or just get some good ideas about a romantic flick to rent, the romantic quotable quotes sure to put a flutter our heart.
Here it is, my favorite line, which makes me weak at my knees.
“Look, I guarantee that we’ll have tough times. And I guarantee that at some point, one or both of us will want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine I will regret it for the rest of my life. Because I know in my heart, you’re the only one for me.” Richard Gere, Runaway bride
